Manchester United rounded off their season with a routine 4-0 win over Stoke, but it was not enough to secure a fourth consecutive Barclays Premier League title.

Goals from Darren Fletcher, Ryan Giggs, a Danny Higginbotham own goal and Park Ji-sung secured a comfortable victory for Sir Alex Ferguson's men, but Chelsea's 8-0 thumping of Wigan rendered the result academic.

Dimitar Berbatov missed two presentable chances to give United the lead prior to Fletcher's 31st-minute opener. The Scottish midfielder lashed home from close range after Nemanja Vidic's header had struck Wayne Rooney and Dean Whitehead.

Giggs added a second soon after, beating Asmir Begovic with a low shot following good work from Berbatov on the left.

United continued to dominate after the interval and Higginbotham turned a Rooney centre into his own net to make it 3-0.

Rooney was then withdrawn as a precaution following an apparent recurrence of his groin problem, but there was still time for the hosts to add a fourth as Park met Giggs' corner with a firm diving header.
